5. Front Suspension
Though the cars covered by this manual have front wheel drive, the front suspension is no more complex than that of a rear-drive car. All of the front suspension parts that are subject to wear can be easily replaced. Some of these repairs require special tools and equipment. To avoid starting a job that may be difficult to complete, please read the entire procedure before beginning any repairs.
When doing any front suspension maintenance or repair, please observe the following general cautions.
WARNING-
Do not re-use any fasteners that are worn or deformed in normal use. Many fasteners are designed to be used only once and become unreliable and may fail when used a second time. This includes, but is not limited to, nuts, bolts, washers, self-locking nuts or bolts, circlips, cotter pins. Always follow recommendations given in this publication. For replacements always use new parts.
|
CAUTION-
Do not attempt to weld or straighten the suspension strut, wheel bearing housing, control arm, or subframe. Damaged parts should be replaced.
|
CAUTION-
Do not install bolts and nuts coated with under-coating wax, as correct tightening torque cannot be assured on installation. Always clean the threads of removed bolts and nuts with solvent before installation, or replace them with new parts.
