2. Maintenance

Scheduled maintenance of the suspension and steering systems consists of periodic inspections of the components for wear and damage. Another periodic requirement is precision adjustment of wheel alignment by an authorized Volkswagen dealer or other qualified shop.

The following items should be checked at the intervals prescribed in LUBRICATION AND MAINTENANCE. Information on making these checks can be found either in LUBRICATION AND MAINTENANCE or under the listed headings in this section of the manual.
1. Checking power steering fluid level.
2. Inspecting constant velocity (CV) joints and boots. 5.2
3. Inspecting ball joints. 5.3
4. Inspecting tie rods and tie rod boots. 7.2
