1.2 Rear Suspension

The rear suspension system is shown in Fig. 1-2. The beam-type rear axle is a one-piece welded assembly of axle beam and trailing arms which yields constant toe and camber throughout the range of suspension travel. The axle beam itself acts as a stabilizer bar, its torsional stiffness helping to reduce body roll during cornering. Rear wheel stub axles are bolted to the trailing arms. The rear suspension "struts" are actually separate coil springs mounted concentrically with shock absorbers. They are easily removed and installed and, unlike the front struts, do not require a special spring compressor for assembly and disassembly. |
