9.1 Horn TroubleshootingHorns that continually blow indicate either a short in the horn circuit-most likely in the switch or steering column-or a faulty relay. Troubleshoot the circuit using the current flow diagram as a guide.

If the horns do not sound, check the fuse(s) and all the wiring connections. On GTI and Golf models, the horns are grounded by their mounting to the car body. Make sure that there is a good, corrosion-free ground connection between the horns and the car. Check continuity between the horn and the car using an ohmmeter. A problem on Golf diesels which causes the glow plug indicator light to glow dimly when the horn button is pushed has been attributed to a faulty horn relay. An improved relay, Volkswagen part no. 431 951 253 H, is available to correct the problem. |
