Replacing Dynamic Oil Pressure Warning System Control Unit (1985 through 1989 models)
Troubleshooting for the oil pressure warning system is covered in ENGINE. If you suspect a problem with the warning system, first be certain that engine oil pressure is OK. If testing reveals a problem, check that the oil pressure switches are functioning properly and that the switch wiring and connections are OK before assuming that the control unit is at fault.
The oil pressure warning control unit is mounted behind the speedometer. For access to the control unit, first remove the instrument cluster as described in BODY AND INTERIOR. To replace a faulty control unit first remove the instrument illumination bulbs and the voltage stabilizer, then remove the flexible printed circuit from the instrument cluster. See Fig. 7-1. Remove the speedometer from the cluster. Then release the locking tabs to lift the control unit printed circuit away as shown in Fig. 7-8. Install the new control unit printed circuit, press in the locking tabs, and reassemble and install the instrument cluster.
