The starter and its attached solenoid are located at the front of the engine and transaxle assembly on cars with manual transmissions, and at the rear of the engine and transaxle assembly on cars with automatic transmissions. To maximize the amount of current available to the starter, a load-reduction relay interrupts the voltage to many of the electrical accessories when the ignition key is in the START position.
